Weir Pond Fall Color

Weir Pond during the summer months is legendary with Fly Fishers, but in the fall it becomes one of the most visited and coveted fall color shots in the canyon. The typically green grass turns a soft yellow while the aspen trees tucked amongst the pines turn brilliant yellow with hints of orange. On a glassy morning in the high country the majestic peaks mirrored in the Weir provide incredible depth and some of the finest scenery in the Bishop Creek Canyon.

Weir Pond is just below the dam at South Lake and as such is near the 9600ft elevation meaning it's lush shoreline tends to peak a tad earlier than some of the lower lying areas with a best of the best usually occuring between September 20th and October 15th.

A photography club gathered to capture the view, not an uncommon sight in the fall.
