South Lake Fall Color
The best color at South Lake is near the back of the
lake near the inlets, the west shoreline near the large
rock slide, in boiler cove along the Bishop Pass Trail
and views down canyon from the dam are also
spectacular. Being that the lake is the highest road
accessible location in the Bishop Creek Canyon, it tends
to start to turn earlier than most other areas. Peak
color timing changes year to year but it generally looks
the most spectacular between mid September and the
beginning of October.
Here are some shots of how the area looks in peak color.
